Hike to the top of the mountains above the village of Merizo

Our first hike in Guam was at the southern tip in a city called Merizo. It was a beautiful drive with the most amazing colors of green towards the mountains and blues toward the sky and ocean. I will probably say that about a billion times because I just can't get over the colors here. As we started hiking we couldn't distinguish a trail through the tall grasses (see Ellie above) but then realized it was marked with some flag tape. Once we got through the rough grass flag marked section of the hike it was a steep narrow trail up the mountain to an overlook. My favorite story of the day was told about a scout a couple of weeks ago that did a similar hike (he was 12 and grew up in guam) and as he looked out he said "You mean to tell me there is water surrounding us?" You learn something new everyday.... Mason climbed to a tree to pick what he thought was pineapple only to find pandanus dubius, a fruit grown in guam, we brought it home and can't wait to try it! After a morning of hiking we went Inarajan Pools to sooth our million razor cuts all over us from the grasses we had to wade through at the beginning of the hike, a little salt water is good for wounds I hear....
